Volleyball goes 2-1 at Broome POD
The SUNY Adirondack Volleyball team took part in a 4 team POD on Saturday afternoon at Broome Community College in Binghamton, NY. It was a good day for the Timberwolves as they went 2-1 in their 3 matches.
They started off the day with a sweep of Tompkins Cortland Community College. They took the first set in a close game, 25-21. They won the next two sets easily, 25-11 and 25-14. Sophomore Jana Depalo led the team with 12 kills in this match. Alexis Sammarco led the team in just her fifth game of the season with 10 digs. Freshman Raeann Bombard led the team in assists, accounting for 23 of the total 30 assists for the Timberwolves.
The second game of the day ended as a 3-1 loss against Corning Community College. Depalo again led the team in the loss with 15 kills. Sophomore Megan Friske had a team high 25 digs, and Raeann Bombard led the team and tied her career high in assists with 37.
The Timberwolves saved their best for last on Saturday, ending the day with a 5 set win against Broome Community College. The Timberwolves were able to take the first lead after taking the first set 25-21. Broome would tie it up after winning the second set 25-6. They split the next two with Adirondack winning the third 25-23 and Broome winning the fourth 25-18 to force a fifth and final set. It was a close matchup but the Timberwolves came out on top, taking the final set 15-13. Jana Depalo again led the team in kills, this time with a career high 18. Friske led the team with 19 digs. Sophomore Morgan Bellanger added 16 digs of her own to help out in this win. Bombard accounted for 27 of the 32 total assists.
After the weekend, the Timberwovles are now 10-5 overall, 3-0 in conference play, and 5-5 in regional play.
They will be back in action on Thursday, October 3rd when they will host Herkimer College. Game time is set for 7:30 PM.
