Smith Named All Region III
Demani Smith added to his already cluttered trophy case as the coaches of Region III voted him onto the NJCAA All Region III Team. He was named to the All Mountain Valley Collegiate Conference Team earlier and now can claim both honors.
Smith was the Timberwolves most consistent performer all year and was often the most athletic and skilled player on the court. He wowed crowds with high flying dunks and crater inducing blocked shots all season, but also did the little things on both ends of the court to help his team win. He averaged a double-double with 18 points and 10.2 rebounds per game and accounted for nearly 400 points on the season. His 10.2 rebounds per game placed him 23rd in the nation and 2nd in Region III. His 18 points per game was 8th in the Region.
He was the team's top defender with 1.6 steals per game and 2.9 blocks per game, which both led the team. His 2.9 blocks per game placed him 9th in the nation and 3rd in Region III.
Smith, a freshman, will be the cornerstone of a very promising 2018-19 Timberwolves roster and he will certainly need to clear some space on the mantle for several more awards.
Congratulations Demani!
