All Mountain Valley Collegiate Conference Baseball
The Mountain Valley Collegiate Conference announced the All Conference Team and several of our Timberwolves were honored!
Greg Johnson was named the All Conference second baseman after having a spectacular season for Coach Job. Johnson led the team in batting with a .414 batting average and played great defense up the middle all year. He earned a .500 on base percentage with a keen eye at the plate and used his ability to reach first to wreak havoc on the base paths. His 17 stolen bases led the team and put him in position to score runs and help his team win games. Johnson rarely hurt the team as he was only caught stealing 3 times all year and struck out a measly 7 times all year, lowest among starters.
Johnson's double play partner, Aaron Cook, was named the All Conference shortstop as well. Cook held down the leadoff spot for the Timberwolves and took full advantage of his position to lead the team in hits with 52 while hitting .374 for the season. His well struck liners and damaging ground balls were impressive, but his true talents came out when he took the field. He played a stellar defensive shortstop and saved dozens of runs with his quickness, agility, body control and fleshy cannon he calls a right arm. Many times during the season he turned a would be RBI single into a ground out and ended scoring opportunities with miraculous double play starts.
Some of those double plays were turned behind the green and gold's ace, Ben Marsh, who earned All MVCC honors as well. Marsh was dominant for much of the season and led his team in innings pitched, complete games, hits per innings pitched and ERA. He pitched some of the biggest games for Coach Job this season and did not disappoint. He pitched a gem against ranked Bergen early in the season that saw him give up only one unearned run, beat Fulton-Montgomery with a 2 hitter on the road, struck out 9 to beat Jefferson and of course had a historical night on the road at Columbia-Greene with the first perfect game in program history. During a late season trip, he was tabbed to take the mound against rival Hudson Valley with the 3 seed on the line and masterfully carved up the offense, including Conference Player of the Year, Jackson Wenstrom, to lead his team to a shutout victory and chance to jump the Vikings. The amazing thing is he did all of that as a freshman.
Congratulations to all three All Mountain Valley Collegiate Conference honorees!
