Day Two NJCAA Golf National Championship Tournament
The Timberwolves came into day two of the NJCAA Championship Tournament sitting in 8th place and in great position to jump some teams to move up the leaderboard. They have been excellent in multiple day events all season and continued that trend today as most of the golfers improved their scores from day one and they were able to jump into 7th place with plenty of time to make their way up the ladder over the next two days of play.
Coach Carpenter's squad put some distance between themselves and Onondaga and caught Massasoit by putting up a score that was 8 strokes better than them on day two. They are now only 6 strokes behind Bucks County and 23 strokes off of Morris for 5th place. Georgia Military is 41 strokes up on Adirondack for first place with Vincennes, Sandhills and Minnesota State in between.
Connor Marvin led the surge for the green and gold with a score of 79, a 4 stroke improvement from day one, and continued to get up and down at a very high rate with 10 more pars on the day. Marvin now sits in 27th place overall and will be chasing the 18th place cut off line for All American honors. The current cut off for All American Honorable Mention is 159, 3 strokes under Marvin's 162 two day score.
Ryan Bussing has been playing his best golf on the brightest stage of his career thus far as he repeated his day one score of 82. He consistently out drove his competitors and put himself in position to put up low scores on par 4's and 5's on this tough course at Chautauqua. His 164 has him in 31st place overall and only 5 strokes off of the current All American cut off line.
Ben Hersey struggled on day two and shot 6 strokes over his day one score. In a rare show of emotion from the normally calm, cool and collected Hersey he laid down and covered his face with his hat by the tee box of his final hole, but as usual composed himself quickly and finished his round with a solid par on hole 9. He has been great all season and will bounce back on day three to help the Timberwolves climb the leaderboard.
Kyle Wilson improved on his day one score by 3 strokes to get into the clubhouse with an 87 and Garrett Stevens improved by 4 strokes to record an 88.
