5 Honored By NJCAA For Academic Success
The Timberwolves have excelled on the field of competition all year, but as the sports seasons come to a close and we enter the summer we turn our attention to those student-athletes that excelled in the classroom as well.
Five student-athletes received honors from the NJCAA for their academic efforts during the 2017-2018 academic year. The NJCAA awards All Academic Honors to those student-athletes producing a 3.6 GPA or higher for the combined fall, winter and spring sessions. The five honorees represent six of our athletics programs.
Aaron Cook, John Godfrey, Carly Hldenbrandt, Owen Jones and Maya Phillips were awarded certificates through the national governing body.
Aaron Cook is a dual sport student-athlete who starred on the defensive side of the ball for Coach Ramirez and the soccer program and was All Mountain Valley Collegiate Conference and All Region III for Coach Job and the baseball program. Cook graduated in May of 2017 with an Associate's of Applied Science, Magna Cum Laude, but decided to return to play the sports he loves. He has been a Dean's List recipient for four straight semesters as he pursues a second degree.
John Godfrey joined Coach Gaulin's cross country program in the fall of 2017 and quickly became one of the top runners in the program. He is pursuing a media arts degree and is a true renassaince man with immense talent for visual arts, spoken word and marketing. He was a Dean's List recipient in the fall of 2017 and spring of 2018.
Carly Hildenbrandt was a middle of the order bat and mainstay at second base for Coach Celeste and the softball program. She walked across the stage this May with an Associate's of Arts with the distinguishment of Magna Cum Laude. She was a Dean's List recipient for 3 consecutive semesters.
Owen Jones joined Coach Carpenter's golf program and stepped up in huge moments throughout the season. He always prioritized his academics and it showed as he was a 4 time Dean's List recipient and graduated Magna Cum Laude with an Associate's of Engineering Science. Jones will be attending RPI in the fall.
Maya Phillips has been named to the Dean's List for 3 consecutive semesters in one of the toughest majors at SUNY Adirondack, Nursing. Balancing a nursing course load and a varsity sport is extremely difficult and most don't make the attempt, but Phillips not only took on the challenge, but excelled. She was a 2 year student-athlete in Coach Li's volleyball program and was an anchor for the offense, collecting a kill in every match of her sophomore season.
Congratulations Timberwolves!
