Timberwolves Team Up With Riley Olson Memorial Golf Tournament
Coach Carpenter and the 2018 Timberwolves Golf student-athletes teamed up with the Riley Olson Memorial Golf Tournament to put on a clinic for local youth. The Riley Olson Junior Golf Day - Clubs for Kids, is an event for six to fifteen year olds to learn the game of golf.
Dozens of young golf enthusiasts came out to Hiland Park Country Club to partake in the clinic, where they learned everything from the basics of the golf swing to the rules and etiquette of playing the links. Coach Carpenter and returning golfers Garrett Stevens and Brendan Stangle shuffled between groups teaching the potential future Timberwolves how to master the game and, of course, having a little fun with the youngsters in the meantime.
Riley Olson passed away in March of 2016 from injuries incurred from a skiing accident. He was an avid golfer who starred at Queensbury High School before enrolling at SUNY Adirondack. His father, Michael, and mother, Melinda, set up the charity to fund nursing scholarships at the University of Vermont and SUNY Adirondack due to the compassion and care the nurses gave to Riley.
The charity includes the Riley Olson Memorial Golf Tournament, this clinic, the Riley Olson Junior Golf Day - Clubs for Kids, and Riley's Village.
