Timberwolves Battle With Illinois Valley And Weather
The Timberwolves dealt with 40 degree weather and a lengthy rain delay before falling to Illinois Valley, 14 to 4.
Aaron Cook scored the game's first run and gave the Timberwolves a first inning lead with a leadoff single, steal of 2nd base and advancement on passed balls twice to produce a run with his legs. Unfortunately the Eagles would put up 7 runs over the first two innings and put the win on a high shelf early. The best come back attempt for Coach Job's squad came in the 4th inning, when Brent McGhee singled to center field and cleared the bases, with the assistance of a misplay in center by the Eagles defender. Cook continued his torrid pace with a 2 for 3 day with 2 runs scored, 2 stolen bases and a walk. Matt Zita nearly matched him as he went 2 for 3 with a run scored and a walk and Joe Hollenbeck notched a single to go 1 for 2.
Greg Johnson pitched better than his final stat line would suggest. Although he allowed 6 earned runs in his 3 innings of work, he also struck out 5 batters and worked around 2 errors made behind him.
The Timberwolves kick off their conference schedule on March 13th against Genesee as they continue their opening week in Myrtle Beach.
