Long Balls Down Timberwolves
Yesterday the weather brought the lightning, but today the bats of Genesee brought the thunder. The Genesee lineup took advantage of windy conditions and a short outfield to build an early lead on the Timberwolves with 2 first inning home runs. They followed that up with 3 more in the second inning to build 12-0 lead on the green and gold.
The offense chipped away at the lead throughout the game, but the deficit was just too much and they fell 16 to 6.
Aaron Cook had a 1 for 2 day at the plate with 2 RBI. Jared Winkle and Matt Zita both clocked out with 1 hit in 2 at bats each with a double and run scored. Zita added an RBI and a walk to his resume. Brent McGhee tied for the team lead in RBI with 2 and Erik Wettersten went 1 for 3 with a run scored and an RBI.
The starting pitcher, Vincent Valenti, didn't fare well as he knocked the rust off from a long winter. In his 1 inning of work he allowed 5 runs, mostly due to the home run balls. Joe Micare relieved him and finished the game, but struggled with his command, issuing 3 walks and 4 hit batsmen in his 3.2 innings.
The Timberwolves battle Camden on the 14th and then get a rematch with Bergen later in the day.
