Brase And The Bats Bring Down Twins
The Timberwolves traveled to Hudson to take on the Twins of Columbia-Greene in a short window of perfect baseball weather between periods of snow, rain, wind and depression. They took full advantage of the dry field conditions to put up 6 runs and come out with a 4 run victory, 6 to 2.
Josh Brase struggled early as he allowed 2 runs in the first inning, prompting early bullpen activity from Coach Job, but he settled down and cruised through his final 5 innings of work. He would give up a single in the 2nd inning and a double in the 3rd for the only hits the Twins would collect after the 1st inning and never allowed another run. He ended the contest with 6 innings pitched, 4 hits allowed, 2 earned runs, 3 walks, a hit batter and 9 strikeouts. Eric Corhouse came in to finish the game in the 7th and put up a 1-2-3 inning with a strikeout mixed in.
The offense was hitting on all cylinders to back Brase. They gave him a 2 run lead in the top of the first inning as Matt Zita, Erik Wettersten, Greg Johnson and Ramon Acosta singled in the inning. After the Twins came back to tie the game in the bottom of the first, Aaron Cook doubled and scored in the 2nd to retake the lead for good. Acosta walked and scored in the 3rd inning to extend the lead and pinch hitter Brent McGhee crushed an RBI double in the 5th to plate the 6th Adirondack run.
Matt Zita and Greg Johnson both went 2 for 3 with a walk and a run in the game with Johnson also driving in a run.
The Timberwolves next play immediately in game 2 of their double header with Columbia-Greene.
