Vavasour Strong In Timberwolves Blow Out
The Timberwolves took on a familiar foe mid week as the Twins of Columbia-Greene traveled to East Field to complete the home and away set. While there wouldn't be a perfect game thrown, the pitching was phenomenal in the 13 to 2 victory over the Region III opponent.
Zach Vavasour put up another strong outing, which looked even better to the late arriving crowd that missed the first inning. He allowed 2 runs after a runner reached base on an error, another singled and another drove in runs with a well hit double to left field. He would only allow 2 singles in the next 4 innings of work, while racking up strikeouts at a blistering pace. He struck out 12 batters in his 5 innings, including striking out the side to end the game in the 5th. He K'd at least two batters in every inning of the contest and 3 in the 2nd and 5th innings.
The Timberwolves took advantage of poor control for most of the night as they drew walks, wore baseballs for free passes and worked the count into hitter's counts before exploiting the count for well hit balls. Coach Job's team drew 10 walks in the contest as well as reaching on a hit batter 3 times, many of which came in a 10 run 3rd inning. Along with those free passes, Jordan Prehoda cleared the bases with a double and Jared Winkle drove in 2 with a liner for a single.
Ramon Acosta ended the day 2 for 3 with 3 runs scored, a walk and a stolen base. Prehoda and Winkle led the team in RBI with 3 each.
The Timberwolves next play the second game of the double header against Columbia-Greene.
