Timberwolves Complete Sweep of Twins
The Timberwolves completed the sweep of Columbia-Greene with a 17 to 1 victory in the second game of the home double header. The victory completes a 4 game set with the Twins that saw the Timberwolves outscore their opponent by a score of 48 to 5 and mix a perfect game into the fold.
The lineup saw a few changes and that seemed to work just fine for the home team as they put up 8 runs in the first inning while batting around. Aaron Cook collected 2 singles in the inning, Matt Zita doubled and walked, Jordan Prehoda doubled and walked and Ramon Acosta, Jayson Mullen, Joe Hollenbeck and Greg Johnson all singled in the inning. They would add a run in the 2nd inning on a Mullen sacrifice fly and then put up 4 runs in each the 3rd and 4th innings. The scoring was capped by an RBI double to right field off the bat of Adam Ballard that caused a flurry of activity in the dugout that can only be described as a combination of cheering, dancing and Fortniting. It was Ballard's first hit of the young season and it was a shot that burned the outfielder, who had come in to play shallow with the right handed hitter at the plate.
Despite being overshadowed by the offensive outburst, Vincent Valenti pitched extremely well in only allowing 1 run and 3 hits over his 5 innings of work. He also punched out 8 batters including striking out the side in the first inning to set the tone for the afternoon.
Jordan Prehoda was the brightest offensive star in a game with plenty of them. He went 2 for 2 with a double, 4 RBI, 2 runs scored and a walk. Aaron Cook used a big first inning to go 3 for 4 and Matt Zita crushed a double in the midst of a 2 for 3 outing. Eric Corhouse went 2 for 3 in a rare start in the field and Jayson Mullen reached base in each of his plate appearances while driving in 2 runs and scoring 2 more.
The Timberwolves next play on Saturday, April 14th at Fulton Montgomery before returning to East Field on Sunday, April 15th to complete the set with FMCC.
