Coach Job may need a visit to the cardiologist after this set with Mohawk Valley. His team is rounding into shape and winning games, but they certainly aren't making it easy on their coach as he frantically and masterfully runs through game plans and pushes the right buttons to produce good results for his team.
The first game was a perfect example of this as the green and gold trailed for the majority of the game, despite throwing Ben Marsh who has been one of their top arms all year. Marsh pitched well, but a couple of early runs gave the Eagles a lead and they held onto it deep into the game.
They trailed 4-2 going into the 7th inning and decided to go ahead and win a game, since they made the trip. John Stewart led off with a double and the next two batters found a way to get on to load the bases with no outs. Aaron Cook drove in a run with a ground out to bring them to within one and in the blink of an eye Greg Johnson had singled in two runs and been doubled home by Jordan Prehoda to give the good guys a 2 run advantage.
It got interesting in the 7th inning as Joe Micare didn't quite have his best stuff and gave up a run on 2 walks and 2 hit batters, but his teammate had his back. Vincent Valenti came in a closed the door on the Eagles and preserved the win.
The second game had just as much high drama. The Timberwolves jumped out to an early lead and extended it to the point of being up 8 to 3 in the 6th, when adversity hit. Josh Brase, who only allowed 2 earned runs on the day, hit the first batter of the inning then allowed a runner to reach on error and a bunt single to load the bases. A run would be walked in and a sacrifice fly brought the Eagles to within 3. Back to back RBI singles brought Coach Job off the bench and the call was made for Valenti, once again. He did not disappoint as he struck out the Eagles 3 hole hitter and then breezed through a 7th inning to claim his 2nd save of the day and preserve the sweep for the Timberwolves.
The Timberwolves next play at home in their final home game of the season against Fulton Montgomery.
