Marsh Shuts Out Hudson Valley
The Timberwolves came into this end of season double header with a lot on the line. Hudson Valley and SUNY Adirondack were both still in the hunt for home field advantage, with some help, in the Region III Tournament and needed to take down their rivals to give themselves a shot at hosting. Both teams came out ready to fight, and Ben Marsh would win the bout in a unanimous decision after 7 rounds.
He pitched lights out, allowing only 3 hits in the complete game victory. The few times he got into trouble, he answered with poise and precision. Two batters reached via walk in the third, before Marsh struck out the next two batters to get out of the inning. Ramon Acosta rewarded his efforts by giving him a 1 run lead in the 5th with a rocket shot gapper for an RBI double, scoring Eric Corhouse who walked to lead off the inning. In the fifth inning, Marsh allowed his first hit of the game, a triple to the gap, but promptly struck out the next batter and induced an infield pop out to dance out of trouble once again. His offense would once again reward his mettle with runs. Greg Johnson doubled to lead off the sixth and smelling blood in the water, Jordan Prehoda doubled him home and would be driven home himself a couple of batters later by a John Stewart sacrifice fly.
Hudson Valley loaded the bases in the 6th, in their most promising scoring opportunity of the night, but Marsh induced two fly outs to end the inning.
The Timberwolves once again challenged in the 7th, but in an oddity the third out was recorded, after an apparent RBI single from Jordan Prehoda, due to a runner missing home plate.
Marsh took the mound in the 7th inning and clearly didn't have his best stuff this late in the game, but his defense was up to the task of picking him up. A shot to center field was ran down by Acosta, followed by an amazing converging catch made on the warning track by Matt Zita to end the game.
Greg Johnson and Jordan Prehoda went 2 for 4 with doubles to lead the offense behind Marsh.
The Timberwolves next play game two of the double header against Hudson Valley.
