Timberwolves Out Powered By Hudson Valley
The Timberwolves came into game two of the double header with a full head of steam, but were cooled down by the hot bats of Hudson Valley.
Aaron Cook started the contest for the green and gold, but would have to come out of the game with arm discomfort, although he stayed in the lineup. In 1 and 1/3 innings of work he struck out 3.
The game started off perfectly as the first two batters reached base and Greg Johnson drove in Erik Wettersten with a ground out to give the good guys a lead in the first inning. Cook gave up a 2 run home run in the 2nd to relinquish the lead before giving way to Vincent Valenti, who had 3 saves in as many games coming into the day. In the third inning Matt Zita returned the lead to their dugout with a 2 run triple, scoring Ramon Acosta and Aaron Cook. A two run homer in the bottom of the 4th would give Hudson Valley the lead back in the back and forth affair.
Hudson Valley put the game away in the 5th inning, with a little help. After a pop out to shortstop, the second batter launched a home run over the left field fence to give them a 5 to 3 lead. Then the strangest call all season occurred. A deep fly ball to center field bounced off the warning track and over the fence for a ground rule doub... wait... solo home run. The official made the call that it was a home run and after conferring with his crew mate, kept the call as was.
The Vikings didn't need the extra run to win the game, but the extra home run brought the final score to 6 to 3 as they earned the split.
