Timberwolves Late Push Not Enough, Eliminated by Finger Lakes
The SUNY Adirondack Baseball team was eliminated from the Region III Baseball Tournament yesterday afternoon after a 9-7 loss at Finger Lakes Community College.
It was another close matchup between these two teams who split the first two games of the series the day before. Finger Lakes was able to get on the board first in this one, taking a 2-0 lead in the second inning. The Timberwolves cut into the early lead in the third inning when a Joe Battista single scored a runner to make it a 2-1 game. Finger Lakes would tack on one of their own in the third to make it 3-1.
In the top of the fifth inning, Joe Battista delivered yet again with a single that would score two runs to tie the game at 3-3. A wild pitch after that allowed Brent McGhee to cross the plate and the Timberwolves took a 4-3 lead.
The lead did not last long however, Finger Lakes was able to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth at 4-4. The sixth inning was where it was won for Finger Lakes, they scored five runs to take a 9-4 lead. SUNY Adirondack did not go down without a fight. The Timberwolves made a push in the eighth inning by scoring three runs to cut the lead to 9-7, but that is how the game would end.
Joe Battista was the leader for the Timberwolves offense in this one. He went 2-4 in at bats while recording three RBIs.
Zach Vavasour started the game on the mound for SUNY Adirondack. Zach threw five innings allowing four runs off only three hits while striking out six batters.
