Timberwolves Win Opener
The Timberwolves collected a win over 4 year opponent College of Pharmacy in their opening game of the season.
The Timberwolves looked rusty in their pre-season games, but they knocked it off during the warm ups for this game apparently as they came out clicking on all cylinders in their season opener against Albany College of Pharmacy. The game began slowly, but picked up once Shea Irish knocked down a three point field goal mid way through the half to give the Timberwolves a sizable lead. Albany College of Pharmacy came back and tied the game up, but freshman Elijah Davis was having none of it and spurred a scoring burst from the Timberwolves with a mid court steal and electrifying dunk that brought the already raucous crowd to its boiling point. Davis fed off the energy of the crowd putting on displays for the packed house en route to 18 points, 5 rebounds and 3 steals to go with a gravity defying block under the opposing basket.
As good as Davis was, he was matched by the play of Demani Smith who was his polar opposite. Smith's calm ,cool demeanor on the floor allowed him to find open spaces in the defense and surgically disect the defense as he dropped mid range jump shots, hook shots over smaller defenders, a three point field goal and several dribble drive penetration baskets. He also led the team in rebounding with 6, assists with 3 and added 2 steals. Veteran guard Shea Irish knocked down two early three pointers and ended with 14 points on 9 field goal attempts while grabbing 5 boards from the guard position. Cam Jett had a break out game in front of the large crowd as he was the best shooter from the field, going 5 for 8 and 2 for 4 from beyond the arc for 13 points. 2 of those points came on a circus lay in that saw him upended and landing awkwardly on his back, but he got to his feet, stretched a little and knocked down a free throw to complete the 3 point play. Jordan Green was 3 for 4 from deep for 9 points on the day, Treyshan Bradley put 8 points toward the effort and Tony Green dropped 6.
The Timberwolves next play at Cayuga on Sunday, November 5th.
