Corning Defeats Timberwolves Despite Huge Second Half
Corning defeated the Timberwolves 77 to 62 despite Demani Smith's 28 points and 18 rebounds.
It was a game of extremes for the Timberwolves as they fell to Corning 77 to 62. The first half was an outright disaster and by far their worst half of the season. They went over 10 minutes without a basket at one point and only put 12 points on the board on 6 for 32 shooting from the field. Demani Smith accounted for 10 of those first half points including the first 8. Cam Jett netted a lay in for the other basket.
Some teams would be deflated by such a historically bad half, but the Timberwolves came out of the locker room with a mission and jumped back into the game. Demani Smith went into to takeover mode for a good 5 minutes collecting 13 points, 4 rebounds, a block and a steal to put the Red Barons on their heels. He would end the game with 28 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocks. Cam Jett caught fire in the second half as well, hitting on 3 of 7 all from behind the three point line to go with 2 mid court steals and assists to lay ups on the other end. The crowd was electrifying as the Timberwolves made their run and were still rocking the gym as Demain Smith sunk a two handed slam through the net with under 2 minutes to play and were all on their feet as Connor Stone rebounded an ill taken shot by Corning in the final seconds of the game and connected long distance to Zion Sankey for a lay in at the buzzer. While it didn't impact the outcome of the game, the crowd loved it and it took the Timberwolves over the half century mark for the half, marking arguably their best half of basketball all season.
The Timberwolves next play tomorrow against Finger Lakes at home. Tip off is scheduled for 2:00 pm following the women's basketball game.
