Smith's Block Party Celebrates Big Win
Demani Smith led the Timberwolves past Broome with historic night.
Demani Smith and the Timberwolves went into Broome's gym and converted the crowd into Adirondack faithful by the end of a dominating 40 minute performance. Coach Haskell's team was firing on all cylinders from the opening tip and defended their way to a 60 to 44 lead going into the locker room. That led to a 102 to 88 victory for the green and gold, but the story was the stat line for Demani Smith.
Smith ended the night with 18 points, 14 rebounds and 11 blocks in one of the top individual performances in Timberwolves history. It was his first triple, double of the season as he set the school record for blocks in a game. He protected the basket all night and very few Broome shot attempts went up without being harassed, altered, adjusted or flat out swatted into the stands. His performance created an odd, but exhilarating experience on the road as the road fans were slowly converted and began to respond as if it was a home game with cheers and excitement for Timberwolf accomplishments. Smith almost brought the house down with a late in the game dunk over 2 defenders.
Smith wasn't the only Timberwolf who had a big game though. Shea Irish was lights out from behind the arc, hitting on 5 of his 11 three point attempts and ending with 27 total points. Elijah Davis notched a double, double of his own with 21 points and 11 rebounds as he was hard to handle in the paint all night for the Hornets. He was 6 for 11 from the floor and went to the line for 15 free throws, hitting 9. Cam Jett put up a solid effort from the point guard position as he continues to take ownership of the initiator role. He connected for 6 assists and set up several other scoring attempts while shooting 3 for 7 from the field, including a circus lay in over a post defender after splitting two guards on the wing, and 2 of 3 from deep for 8 points.
The Timberwolves close out their first half with a trip to Onondaga on Sunday, December 10th.
