Timberwolves Win Second Half Opener
The Timberwolves opened their second half against Word of Life, who traveled down through the snow to take on the streaking SUNY Adirondack team. It took Coach Haskell's team a while to knock the rust off, but they pulled out a convincing win over their non-conference opponent by a final score of 77 to 55.
The offense was slow to awaken in the first half as they only scored 33 points to hold a 10 point lead going into the locker room, but the second half would be all green and gold. Demani Smith led the team in scoring on 11 for 17 from the floor and 24 points. He also led the team in rebounding with 9, blocks with 4 and steals with 5. The story of the second half was the impressive play off the bench from Jordan Green who played like a man on fire in limited minutes to end the game with 14 points on 6 for 8 from the floor with his only two misses coming from beyond the arc, where he was 2 of 4. He wasn't just scoring the rock though as he picked up 2 quick assists, a steal that led to a bucket on the other end and 2 big blocks in the post. His short burst of dominance signaled the end for the opposing team as the lead was stretched to insurmountable during those minutes.
Zion Sankey put up his best performance of the year off the bench as he went 4 for 7 for 9 points to the thrill of the crowd and to chants of "Swaggy."
The Timberwolves next play at Columbia-Greene on Saturday and will be looking to take this momentum into Region III play.
