Smith-Less Timberwolves Falter Against Hudson Valley
The Timberwolves came into this rivalry contest against Hudson Valley without their most powerful cyclinder and the engine just wasn't enough to win the race without it. Demani Smith had to sit out while resting a minor injury and his absence showed in every facet of the game.
The Vikings dominated on the boards all night, leading to second and third opportunities that were cashed in to extend the lead, first to 8 at the half, but then to open it up to over 30 at one point in the game. The score finally rattled to a rest at 87 to 61.
Jacquan Thompson was the bright spot for the Timberwolves as he took the mantle from Smith and led his teammates into battle, set after set. He handled the ball for a large part of the contest and ended up leading the team or sharing the team lead in points ( 15 ), rebounding ( 6 ), assists ( 2 ), steals ( 2 ) and blocks ( 1 ). He was 5 of 8 from the floor in a very economical shooting day and added 5 of 8 from the free throw line.
Shea Irish added 13 points on 4 of 10 from three point land.
The Timberwolves next play at Mohawk Valley on Saturday, February 3rd.
