Timberwolves Defeat Clinton to Close Out Season
The Timberwolves traveled to Clinton to close out their season and had a fight on their hands as they looked to end their season on a high note. Clinton wasn't playing along early in the game as they fought hard and took a lead into the locker room, 39 to 36.
The Timberwolves, led by star big man Demani Smith, came out of the locker room on a mission though and put up a great offensive second half. They outscored Clinton 49 to 42 in the second half to secure the 4 point victory, 85 to 81.
Smith poured in 27 points and dominated on the boards to the tune of 17 rebounds. He's been solid all season and tonight was no exception as he willed the Timberwolves to a victory in their final contest of the 2017-18 season.
He got plenty of help from his teammates, though as he was one of 5 to reach double figures in scoring. Michael Tillman tallied 16 points, followed by Jacquan Thompson's 14. Jett accounted for 11 points and dished out dimes all night, ending the contest with 7 assists. Shea Irish added 13 including the dagger that passed the SUNY Adirondack record for team 3's in a season, which was formerly 196.
The team came into the contest with 195 made three point field goals, needing only 1 to tie and 2 to break the team record. Shea Irish and Tillman wasted no time dispensing of the outdated mark and rewriting it to 199 as Irish accounted for 2 and Tillman added 2 more. The team rode the back of the 3 point shot all season and it is no surprise to anyone that watched them all season that they will now go down as the sharpest of the sharp shooting teams to ever wear the green and gold.
