Timberwolves Shoot Down Red Barons
The Timberwolves shot down the Red Barons of Corning 4 goals to 2.
The Timberwolves came into this contest a little banged up with starting attacker Anders Trestick not suiting up for the game, but that opened the door for other attackers to show what they could do with the ball and they did just that.
Aaron Cook, who is a very talented baseball player as well who drew interest from NCAA Division I colleges and pro scouts, proved that he could do some damage with his feet as well as his pitching arm. He came out of the gate like a thouroughbred and put the home team up 1-0 in under a minute, scoring from the front of the goal off of a great pass from Bailey Dray. Corning would tie it up later in the half, but once again Cook was the man on the spot as Kalab Helms floated a beautiful corner kick pass from the near corner that found the jumping Cook and then bounded into the twine for his second goal of the day. Cook was clearly the player of the match as he combined two goals with excellent defensive play, but he had plenty of help from his friends. Jack Fitzpatrick scored off of a brilliant pass from Zack Stewart near the end of the half to go up 3-1, which built up momentum and confidence that the Timberwolves would ride to a victory. Richie Morris peppered the goal all day, and finally found the back of the net unassisted to start the second half and extend the lead to 4-1.
Eli Gowen played masterfully in the goalie box, allowing only 1 goal in over 80 minutes of play and collecting 8 saves including an extraordinary effort to dive on a ball in traffic to save a sure goal for Corning. Connor Worthington got his first action in goal for the season, playing the final 6:30 and allowing 1 goal while saving the ball twice.
The Timberwolves next play Wednesday the 20th at Clinton.
