Men's Soccer Wins on Autism Awareness Day
The men's soccer team scored two goals en route to a win as SUNY Adirondack partnered with Upstate NY Autism Alliance on Autism Awareness Day.
The Timberwolves started the day with a heart felt speech from Andrew Pullano, who lives with Aspberger's Syndrome and is a brave and vocal advocate for autism awareness on and off campus. He spoke to the pre-game crowd and collected donations from the spectators as the student-athletes, coaches, administrators and officiating crew wore autism awareness stickers to bring awareness to the needs of those on the autism spectrum.
After receiving a great message from Mr. Pullano, the Timberwolves took the field to take on Word of Life, a Bible Institute who competes unaffiliated. On a blistering day, Jack Fitzpatrick would scorch the ball past the Word of Life keeper for a goal off of a beautiful pass from Connor Mallory mid way through the first half to give the home team a 1-0 advantage. 8 minutes later Kalab Helms would find Alec Potter on the left corner of the goal and Potter would strike the perfect ball as it found the back of the net on a sharp angle to give the Timberwolves a 2-0 lead, which would be the final score.
Eli Gowen shut out the offense of Word of Life on 14 saves. Kyle Suchan and Bailey Dray anchored the defense as they combined for 11 interceptions, 6 clearances and 2 blocked shots on the day.
The Timberwolves next play at Tompkins Cortland on Wednesday.
