Soccer Shuts Out Jefferson
Coach Ramirez and the soccer program hosted Jefferson to open their home schedule and wasted no time getting win number 1 under their belts.
The Timberwolves put a lot of pressure on the Cannoneers defense early in an attempt to get an early lead and it worked like a charm. Just under the 35 minute mark of the first half, Jacab Helms sliced a corner kick into the box with the precision of a surgeon and found Debrasco Dorvilma in the middle. Dorvilma rose above several defenders and redirected the ball into the back of the net with a well struck header.
They would hold the 1-0 lead for over 55 minutes as the defense, anchored by Kalab Helms who seemingly won every 50/50 ball that came his way, refused to allow the Cannoneers to get good looks at the goal. At the 25 minute mark in the second half Opeyemi Agosa found an open Greg Maccharulo on the left side and after a quick dribble through a defender and lightning fast shot on goal the score was 2-0.
The game was physical all day and the game was delayed for several minutes as a scuffle broke out around the 16 minute mark and red cards were given out to Anthony Cardenas and Gavin Durdon, but order was restored very quickly by the officiating crew and coaches and play resumed.
The game was put on ice at the 6:05 mark as a crisp cross pass from Dorvilma found the foot of Kalab Helms for goal number 3.
Brenden Rodd saved 14 shots to complete a shut out of the Region III opponent. He collected several difficult saves, included one that forced him up in the box to leap over two defenders and end the scoring attempt.
The Timberwolves next play on September 12th at rival Hudson Valley.
