Anthony Cardenas has been steadily improving throughout the year, but his talent was on full display in today's contest against Mountain Valley Collegiate Conference foe Clinton.
Cardenas opened up his highlight reel with a goal at the 20 minute mark of the first half. He found the back of the net off of a great pass from Debrasco Dorvilma to give the Timberwolves an early lead. Later in the half he showed off his passing ability as he assisted on a goal by sophomore Kalab Helms that created some cushion for the home team going into the half.
Coach Ramirez stressed that the team needed to keep pushing and not allow their opponent to get any momentum, but Clinton wasted no time beating the defense early in the second half to climb back into the contest. Ramirez made a couple of adjustments and it worked like a charm as just over 10 minutes later Connor Mallory found Garrett Caprood for a close range goal to put them back up 3-1.
Clinton returned fire with just under 7 minutes remaining to bring the score to 3-2, but Cardenas iced the game away with an athletic run followed by a right footed precision missile of a shot attempt that put the game away. Kalab Helms picked up the assist on a great pass down the line.
The Timberwolves have the weekend off as the women's team plays North Country and get back into action Wednesday the 26th at Word of Life.
