9th Ranked Itasca Downs Timberwolves In Extras
In an instant classic the Timberwolves took 9th ranked Itasca down to the wire, before succumbing in an extra 8th inning, 8 to 5.
The Timberwolves took an early lead on a double from Danielle Flint, who later scored on a passed ball to give the green and gold a 2-0 lead. Itasca returned fire in the 3rd with a 2 run homer to tie the contest up, 2-2. Elizabeth Richards would lead a scoring drive in the 4th with a single and run scored as she made it around the base paths with her quickness and speed to give the Timberwolves another lead.
A costly error in the 6th inning seemed to doom Coach Celeste's squad to the losing column as Itasca poured in 3 unearned runs, but in true heroic fashion they scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th to send it to extras. Danielle Flint's double sparked the scoring, which was capped off with an Elizabeth Richards 2 out single to tie the game.
The extra inning would not be kind, however as the Vikings took advantage of the international tie breaker rule and knocked in, not only the runner who started at 2nd to begin the inning, but 2 more runners to take a 3 run lead that would stand as the final score.
Bailey Hasemann pitched with a lot of grit as she threw all 8 innings, giving up only 5 earned runs after pitching in both of yesterday's games.
Hannah Grady went 2-4 with a stolen base, Hannah Salmon finished at 2-3 with a walk and 2 runs scored and Danielle Flint continued her torrid pace with a 2-4 day with 2 runs, 2 doubles and an RBI.
The Timberwolves next play Anoka-Ramsey later in the day to complete their 2 game second day in Florida.
