Timberwolves Sweep Mohawk Valley
Coach Celeste's squad finished up the double header with Mohawk Valley with a clean sweep and 2 mercy rule victories. After a dominant 9 to 1 victory in the first game, the Timberwolves kept the bats hot in the second game to the tune of 14 runs.
Danielle Flint crushed a 3 run home run that nearly brought The Dome down in the first inning to set the tone for the day as the Timberwolves put up a 4 run 1st. The Eagles returned fire in the bottom of the inning with a 2 run blast of their own in the midst of a 3 run inning, but it would be the only damage Elizabeth Richards would take on the day as she settled in and began to dissect the MVCC lineup.
An unplanned fireworks display broke out in the 2nd inning as the Timberwolves bats lit up the sky... and the ground... and everything in between for 9 runs to break the game wide open. Bailey Hasemann and Hannah Salmon collected both a single and a double in the inning, while the team collected 7 hits, a walk and reached on error twice in the big inning. They would tack on one more run in the 3rd inning for good measure, but the game was all but over after the crooked number went up on the scoreboard.
Richards ended the day with a line of 5 innings pitched, 3 earned runs, 2 walks, 4 hits and 6 strikeouts for the victory, but her line is a little misleading. She was dominant after the first inning home run, allowing 1 walk, 2 hits and no runs in her final 4 innings of work. She also helped herself at the plate going 2 for 2 with a double, 3 runs and an RBI.
Bailey Hasemann finished off a spectacular home opening series going 3 for 4 with a double, 3 runs scored and an RBI.
The lineup went a combined 13 for 30 at the plate.
The Timberwolves next play Friday, April 6th at Columbia-Greene.
