Lady Timberwolves Look Strong in Pre-Season Opener
The Lady Timberwolves looked strong in their pre-season opener against SUNY Delhi.
The Lady Timberwolves opened their season against a strong USCAA program in SUNY Delhi. It is an interesting matchup as SUNY Delhi was once a Region III rival, but has moved to the USCAA and NAIA since becoming a 4 year institution. The programs were equally matched for much of the contest with Adirondack carrying a 16-9 lead into the 2nd quarter. The Broncos would chip away at the lead in the 2nd half and with the game tied at 26 and less than a second on the clock they hit a shot from the paint to take a 2 point lead into the locker room. Unfortunately for the home team, it seemed that fatigue started to set in and the rebounding totals tilted toward the Broncos as they extended their lead to 52-44 after 3 and were able to secure the 64-52 victory despite a solid effort from the Timberwolves.
Adirondack has plenty to be excited about this season as there was a nice combination of veteran leadership and young talent on display. Freshman guard Ashley Caba led all scorers with 16 points and looks to be a volume scorer for the Timberwolves as they enter their season. Sophomore leader Brianna McKinney was the rock for the offense as she collected 12 points as well as 6 boards and 3 assists. Freshman Alexis Smith kept pace with McKinney with 12 points. Kaicey Sardina slides over from volleyball to provide ignition for the play calling of Coach Quattrocchi. She tied for the lead in assists with Kylee Brand at 4. Brand also blocked 2 shots and led the team in rebounding with 7.
Coach Quattrocchi has plenty to be excited about as we head into our final pre-season competition on Saturday.
