Timberwolves Topple Cannoneers in Overtime
The Timberwolves rode the hot hand of Kylee brand to an overtime win over Jefferson.
The Cannoneers of Jefferson came to town to take on the Timberwolves and Coach Quattrocchi had his hands full all night as it was a nail biter on Ben Davis Court. The Timberwolves jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter, but saw Jefferson roar back to take a small lead into the locker room, 31 to 36. Kylee Brand went into take over mode in the second half and poured 11 of her 24 points onto the Jefferson defense, who didn't have an answer for her size and quickness in the lane. Her outstanding half culminated in the biggest play of the young season as Brianna McKinney put up a shot to tie the game at the end of the fourth quarter, but came up short. Kylee Brand grabbed a clutch offensive rebound and finished the put back to send the game into over time.
The overtime period belonged to Ashley Caba as she accounted for 7 of the team's 11 overtime points. The game wound down with a close game coming down to the free throw shooting of the Timberwolves. Brianna McKinney stepped to the line and tied the contest up with a 2 of 2 trip to the charity stripe and Ashley Caba iced the game with 2 more in the waning seconds of the period.
Ashley Caba finished the contest with 19 points, trailing only the outstanding performance of Kylee Brand, who collected a double-double with 24 points and 10 rebounds. Brianna McKinney added 14 points and Kaicey Sardina notched 13.
The Timberwolves next play Wednesday the 15th at rival Hudson Valley.
