Timberwolves Lose Heartbreaker to Herkimer
Herkimer defeated the Timberwolves on two late free throws with less than a second on the game clock, 69 to 67.
The Timberwolves battled Herkimer down to the wire, but in the end it came down to free throws. The contest was rarely more than two possessions apart so there was plenty of opportunity to coach during this contest and it showed as each coach unloaded their time outs and utilized their fouls to set up a thrilling, but disappointing ending to a great game. With under 30 seconds on the clock and a tie game, Coach Quattrocchi instructed his players to foul to reach the limit and slow the Generals march down the court, which they did effectively and left mere seconds on the clock as they committed their 4th foul of the quarter. The Generals in bounded the ball and were stuck on the perimeter as the clock ticked away, but were bailed out with a block call along the three point line to send them to the line with under a second on the clock. The Herkimer guard would knock down both free throws to take a 2 point lead leaving the Timberwolves with only one option. They advanced the ball with a timeout, in bounded the ball to Brianna McKinney for a desperation heave and accepted their fate.
Kylee Brand dominated on the post and was the largest reason for the Timberwolves having that last shot as she collected 30 points and 13 rebounds on the day. Kaicey Sardina also racked up a double, double with 17 points and 12 rebounds, while Ashley Caba added 10 points, including the tying 3 point field goal late in the game in clutch fashion.
Lacey Cormie made her debut as she returned from an illness that held her out for the entire soccer season. She didn't get on the scoreboard, but did block a shot, collect an assist and grab an offensive rebound in limited minutes.
The Timberwolves next play at Broome on Friday, December the 8th.
