Timberwolves Pick Up Winter Break Win
The Lady Timberwolves opened up their second half against Word of Life and despite a sluggish 1st quarter, showed no signs of rust as they handled the visitors with relative ease. Word of Life held a slim lead after 1 quarter, 14 to 12, but that was quickly erased with an offense out pouring in the 2nd quarter that saw 31 points tallied. Lacey Cormie found her sea legs after joining the team mid season and led the onslaught with 8 points and several high light reel passes to teammate Ashley Caba who added 10 for the quarter on her way to 21 points. Cormie would end the game with 16 points.
The game was never close after the 2nd quarter as the Timberwolves continued to find open shooters and fast break lanes to the tune of 83 points and a 40 point victory.
Brianna McKinney led the team in scoring with a tremendous shooting day, going 9 for 15 from the floor and 4 for 9 from beyond the arc for 22 points. She also added a show stopping block on the other end. Caba followed her with 21 points and added 7 rebounds and 6 assists, including the most noteworthy assist of the game to Ronasia Charles for her first points of the season. Charles would add a 3 point field goal to end the game with 5 points. Alexis Smith tallied 10 points on 4 for 11 shooting and collected 7 boards. Kylee Brand led the team in rebounding with 10 boards followed closely by Kaicey Sardina with 9.
The Timberwolves next play on Saturday at Columbia-Greene.
