Day of Firsts For Timberwolves
Coach Cotter and the Timberwolves traveled to Schroon Lake to face off with Word of Life in a non-conference match and made the trip well worth it by claiming a 5 to nil victory.
Gianna Gazzelli scored a goal in the first 5 minutes of play to set the tone for the match. It was the sophomore's first career goal and came at the perfect time for her team. It would be the only goal in the first half for either team, but more was to come in the second half.
Gazzelli found herself in the middle of the action once again early in the second half as her pass found the strong right foot of Autum Bryant who buried the ball in the net for her second goal of the season. Bryant wasn't finished though, she was just getting started. Mid way through the half, she deposited a Lauren Sleicher pass into the back of the net and within 2 minutes had repeated for her third goal of the match. It was Bryant's first career hat trick.
As the match went under 3 minutes to play Sleicher decided to add a first of her own, putting a shot through the cross bars to cement the victory.
Goal keeper Adriana Armstrong pitched a shutout, another first.
This was also collegiate win number 1 for Coach Cotter, who joined the program in August.
Congratulations Coach Cotter!
