Timberwolves defeat the Lakers to open their season
The Timberwolves defeated Finger Lakes 3 sets to 2.
Timberwolves Start the Season with a Win
The Timberwolves have a rough beginning of their season as they play 3 games in one day against very strong opponents, but they showed mettle and were able to pull off a 5 set victory over Finger Lakes in game one of their marathon Saturday. The first set shown light on how the rest of the day would go as the home team won an extra points game 26 to 24. The second set would go the other way in almost identical fashion as the Lakers pulled out a 27 to 25 victory to tie the match up at 1 all. We opened it up a bit in set 3 with a 5 point win as Maya Phillips and Isabella Shrestha found their groove and began to find angles for kills. Unfortunately that momentum would be short lived as they would drop the 4th set 25 to 13 and draw several "motivational" time outs from Coach Li. Whatever messages he delivered during that set, they worked as the Timberwolves were able to bounce back from that rough set to collect the victory in set 5, 15 to 8.
The aforementioned Isabella Shrestha would finish the match with 9 kills, 2 blocks and a block assist, while Maya Phillips would collect 11 kills, 1 block and 1 block assist. Breanna MacDuff also starred from the service line as she served 4 aces to go along with 8 kills.
The team plays 2 more matches today, with a short break between game one and game two. Their next opponent will be Genesee.
