Timberwolves Pick Up Victory Over Niagara
The Timberwolves defeated Niagara in straight sets.
The Timberwolves made the short trip down to Hudson Valley for POD play and were well prepared for their first game against Niagara. The Thundewolves of Niagara had a tough time finding any rhythm on offense and SUNY Adirondack capitalized on that lack of congruency early by taking a 25 to 11 first set. They attacked from all sides in the set with Isabella Shrestha, Maya Phillips and Victoria Bruni finding the hard wood and putting up kills early. The second set was more of the same, but Brianna Hammond joined the party to add some offense of her own which led to a 25 to 11 second set victory. The third set was more of an adventure, but the defense came through for Coach Li as they were able to complete the straight sets victory over Niagara with a 25 to 22 third set.
The story of the match was the amazing defensive play from Kaicey Sardina, who took over the libero role for this match. She racked up 15 digs in a match devoid of dig opportunities and anchored a very good defensive showing from the team. She takes over the libero position after putting up exceptional defensive numbers over the team's first four matches. Her ability to control the back row was evident in this win over Niagara.
Victoria Bruni led the offense for SUNY Adirondack with 6 kills and 3 aces.
The Timberwolves take on Erie later today.
