Cornelius Tavarres Named Women's Basketball Coach
SUNY Adirondack Athletics is pleased to announce the hiring of Cornelius Tavarres as the Head Women’s Basketball Coach. Tavarres has spent over a decade coaching at all levels of girl’s and women’s basketball. He has coached grade school, high school, AAU and collegiate programs. Most recently, he was the head coach at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (ACPHS). While at ACPHA he lead his team to the 2016-17 Hudson Valley Intercollegiate Athletic Conference regular season and conference titles, received an automatic bid to the USCAA National Championship, and was named Conference Coach of the Year.
“We are excited to welcome Cornelius to the Timberwolves Athletics team,” said Zach Schwan, SUNY Adirondack Director of Athletics. “His ties to the local communities and region, coupled with his vision for Adirondack Women’s Basketball made it clear to our search committee he was the right person to lead this program and take it to the next level. His enthusiasm, dedication, and professionalism will be a terrific addition to our department and campus. ”
Tavarres is a US Army Veteran, graduated from SUNY Empire State College with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and a minor in Accounting, and is currently finishing his masters in Sports Management, Concentration in Coaching Theory and Strategy from American Military University. Cornelius and his wife, Kimberly, have three grown children, Josh, Kea, and Katlyn and reside in Queensbury, NY.
