Timberwolves Softball Sweeps Fulton Montgomery
The SUNY Adirondack Softball team won two games this afternoon against Fulton Montgomery Community College at Morse Athletic Complex in Glens Falls, NY.
In the first game of the afternoon, Maddi Mann gave the Timberwolves and early 1-0 lead after a solo home run in the first inning. Victoria Dupis also scored a run in the inning off a sacrifice fly from Kaylee Coon to take a 2-0 lead. Fulton Montgomery would score two runs in the third inning to tie things up, but not for long. The Timberwolves took a 3-2 lead the next inning after Rachel Yattaw scored on a steal of home plate with two outs. SUNY Adirondack then found their groove and exploded in the fifth inning. Maddie Mann started it off with a leadoff double. Two batters later Kaylee Coon stepped up and hit a three run homer to put the Timberwolves up 6-2. Nine runs were scored in the inning with Katie Murphy, Taylor Ringer, Maddi Mann, and Victoria Dupis all collecting RBIs to give the Timberwolves a 12-2 victory.
The Timberwolves got production from the entire lineup in this one with the team collecting 14 hits. Katie Murphy and Maddi Mann led the team going 3-3 in at bats. Mann accounted for three runs and three RBIs, Murphy scored one run and had one RBI. Kaylee Coon had a big game as well, she had two hits that led to four RBIs.
Breanna MacDuff was the winning pitcher for the Timberwolves in game one of the double header. She pitched all five innings, allowing only three hits and two runs.
In the second game of the double header, the Timberwolves offense kept rolling from the first game. They got out to a quicker start in this one, putting up five runs to open the game in the first inning. Kaylee Coon, Kiley King, and Hannah Grady all had RBI hits in the frame.
It was all SUNY Adirondack after that with the team collecting seventeen hits to lead the way to an 18-2 win. Hannah Grady led the team with three hits and four RBIs in this one. Melina Morris and Kaylee Coon both had great games as well, each ended with three hits and three RBIs. Kaylee Coon hit another home run in the fifth inning of this one, her tenth on the season.
Kaylee Coon had a great game in the pitchers circle as well. She threw a complete game allowing only two runs off five hits while striking out three batters.
With the two wins today the SUNY Adirondack Softball team is now 12-16 on the season and are winners of nine of their last eleven contests.
The Timberwolves will be back in action on Wednesday May 8th when they will face off against Herkimer Community College at the Adirondack Sports Complex in Queensbury, NY. First pitch is scheduled for 3 PM.
