Timberwolves Drop Tough One To # 11 Herkimer
The Timberwolves outplayed the # 11 ranked Herkimer Generals in every way but one today, but it was the way that mattered most. The Generals took the game by a final score of 4 to 2.
Starting pitcher Joe Micare looked great in the first 2 innings of his start, but the Herkimer offense found a way to get to him in the 3rd inning. They took advantage of 5 walks and an error to score 3 runs that inning, which would be enough to claim the victory despite a valiant comeback attempt in the top of the 4th inning by Coach Job's crew.
Brent McGhee led off with a single through the infield, followed by a hard hit liner by Ramon Acosta to set up first and second with none out for John Stewart. Stewart laid down a perfect bunt to advance the runners and reached safely as no one covered first base to load the bases. The Generals got a pop out on the next batter, but Erik Wettersten launched a fly ball to right field that nearly found grass, but went down as a sacrifice fly as the right fielder made a great running catch on the ball. Acosta scored on a wild pitch, but that would be all they could muster.
Vincent Valenti pitched very well in relief, going 3.1 innings and only allowing 1 earned run.
The Timberwolves play the second game of the double header at Herkimer after a short break.
