Baseball Rides Huge 1st Inning To Victory
The Timberwolves dodged the rain and made it to Schenectady just in time for their offense to catch fire. The Royals were certainly hoping the rains would come and douse the bats of the green and gold, but no relief would come as Coach Job's squad took game one 18 to 1.
They scored 10 runs in the first and 8 more in the second to cement the victory early. The first 7 batters reached base and 12 of the first 13 touched first without being put out. Greg Johnson was 2 for 2 with 2 RBI in the first inning and Jordan Prehoda doubled and hit a sacrifice fly for his 2nd RBI of the inning.
Ramon Acosta homered over the left field fence in the middle of an 8 run second inning that saw Aaron Cook triple and John Stewart go 2 for 2 with an RBI double.
Zach Vavasour pitched lights out, with his only blemish being a 4th inning home run allowed. He pitched all 5 innings, allowing only 4 hits and the 1 run.
Acosta's line was 2 for 4 with a home run, double, 4 RBI and 2 runs scored. Aaron Cook was 3 for 4 with a walk, triple, RBI and 3 runs. Matt Zita reached based in 4 of his 5 plate appearances and Brent McGhee went 3 for 4 with a double, 4 RBI and 2 runs scored.
The Timberwolves play game two of the double header next.
