Men's Basketball Loses Heart Breaker to Genesee in Overtime Thriller
Queensbury, NY
The SUNY Adirondack men's basketball team battled hard against one of the top teams in NJCAA Region 3, but ultimately fell to Genesee Community College in an overtime showdown, 96-90. Despite a valiant effort by the Timberwolves, Genesee's late-game execution secured the victory in a game that was tightly contested from start to finish.
Adirondack was led by standout performances from freshman guard Messiah "Moose" McLaurin and sophomore Eugene Johnson. McLaurin, continuing his strong season, finished with 22 points on 10-of-14 shooting, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds. Johnson was a dominant force throughout, contributing 19 points—6-of-6 shooting from the field, 6-of-6 from the free throw line—along with a career-high 14 rebounds and 3 blocks.
Despite the strong individual performances, Genesee's late-game execution proved crucial, and they were able to edge out the Timberwolves in the extra period. With the loss, Adirondack drops to 14-5 on the season, but the team remains poised for a strong finish.
"We fought hard, and the guys played with a lot of heart," said head coach Maxx Sweet. "We're going to learn from this game and keep building as we head into Thursday's big matchup at home."
The Timberwolves will look to bounce back as they prepare for a crucial home game against Fulton-Montgomery Community College this Thursday, February 6th, at 6:00 PM. Adirondack previously defeated Fulton-Montgomery 114-103 on the road earlier this season, and the team is eager to defend their home court in what promises to be another high-energy contest.
