Timberwolves Advance in Playoffs with 70-64 Win Over Clinton CC
Queensbury, NY —
SUNY Adirondack Men's Basketball pulled off a hard-fought 70-64 victory over #12 seeded Clinton Community College in the first round of the Region 3 Playoffs on Tuesday night. Despite trailing for much of the game, Adirondack's tenacious defense and grit in the final minutes helped them secure the win and advance to the next round.
Clinton led for the majority of the contest, but Adirondack found a way to grind out the victory. With shots not falling consistently throughout the game, the Timberwolves relied on their defensive effort to stay within striking distance. The defense stepped up when it mattered most, holding Clinton in check during critical moments.
Sophomore Xavier Sanchez was a standout performer, recording a career-high 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting and securing 10 rebounds for a double-double. Sanchez's all-around performance was crucial in keeping the Timberwolves in the game and ultimately giving them the lead late. His dominant play in the paint and on the boards helped Adirondack find success when their offense was struggling.
Sophomore Tyre Williams added 15 points and played a key role in orchestrating the offense, while Eddie Sanchez came off the bench to provide a spark, contributing 13 points and 7 rebounds.
"We knew it was going to be a tough battle, and credit to Clinton for playing a great game," said Adirondack head coach, Maxx Sweet. "We didn't have our best shooting night, but we stuck with it and leaned on our defense. Xavier's performance was incredible, and the contributions from a bunch of differnt guys were huge. This was a great team effort, and we're excited to keep pushing forward."
With the win, Adirondack advances to the Region 3 Quarterfinals, where they will face the #4 seeded TC3 Panthers at a neutral site (Herkimer College) on Friday, February 28th, at 7:30 p.m. A victory in this game would tie the Timberwolves for the most single-season wins (19) in the program's 49-year history.
