Men's Soccer Draw In Home Opener
August 25, 2024
Queensbury, NY
SUNY Adirondack Men's Soccer opened their season on Saturday afternoon looking very different from years past. They took on Paul Smith's College, in what ended up being a highly contested match.
With mostly fresh faces, Adirondack took to the field with confidence and control. It was a game of possession which allowed the Timberwolves control for most of the first half. The Bobcasts settled in and began to pressure and it became a back-and-forth game.
Paul Smith's was more organized in the second half although Adirondack didn't back down. Handfuls of missed, or near missed, shots were had by both teams leading to an elevation of anxiety for both clubs. With under three minutes on the clock, an off-sides call saved the Timberwolves from a Bobcats goal but a second yellow card was issued to an Adirondack defender for a poorly timed tackle. Now playing short, the Timberwolves had to defend a Paul Smith's corner kick from the corner of the box. The ball found the back of the net but once again the Bobcats were offsides. Adirondack tried to take advantage of Paul Smith's disbelief and headed up the field mostly uncontested. The Bobcast recovered and held the Timberwolves as they took the games final shot on goal. Emiliano Nicasio and Harvey Haycock both led the team with two shots on goal, while as a team they accumulated 10 shots. Sebastian Maynard did a great job in the goal holding off Paul Smith's continued pressure.
Adirondack will host their first Regional opponents next weekend when they take on Niagara on Saturday, September 7 and Erie on Sunday, September 8.
