Timberwolves Open Season With Win
Coach Li's squad wasted no time getting win number one under their belts as they grounded the Eagles of Green Mountain in straight sets.
The first set saw the Timberwolves battle the Eagles in a back and forth affair, but the hot play of Emily Vetere put the set away. Vetere powered her team to a 25 to 21 victory that set the tone for the remaining sets. Vetere would end the contest with 6 kills and 7 service aces total.
The second set looked like a run away early as the home team took a 15 to 4 lead, but the Eagles screeched back into it and almost got back into the driver's seat. This time it was Karley Hertzner's time to step up as she collected a huge block late in the set to secure the 25 to 23 victory. Hertzner killed 4 points and picked up 2 blocks for the match.
The third set saw the Timberwolves settle in and cruise to a 25 to 9 victory to take the match in straight sets.
Returners Victoria Bruni and Breanna MacDuff shined in the victory alongside their freshman teammates. Bruni killed 5 points and collected a block and 8 digs. MacDuff continued her torrid pace for assisting points from last season with 21 assists to go with 7 service aces and 3 kills. Leah Bowen and Megan Friske tied for the team lead in digs with 11 each.
The Timberwolves next play at Genesee Community College on Saturday, September 8th for their first pod matches of the year. They will play Genesee Community College, Finger Lakes Community College and Monroe Community College in the three match day.
