Coach Li took his team to Niagara over the weekend and came away with two big Region III victories with Niagara Falls as the back drop.
The early morning match saw the Timberwolves take on the host and take the match in straight sets. Breanna MacDuff provided the finesse as Karley Hertzner supplied the power as they washed Niagara away, 25-16, 25-11, 25-11. MacDuff assisted on 31 kills, many of which went to Hertzner who ended the match with 10 to go with 3 blocks and 2 block assists.
The middle match lined up against Jamestown, who hadn't dropped a set this season before battling Adirondack. The first set was a hard fought contest, but Jamestown hung on to keep their perfection complete with a 25-22 victory. The second set saw Jamestown take a 2-0 lead despite the great play of Victoria Bruni, who ended the contest with 12 kills, an ace and a block assist to go with her excellent defensive effort of 18 digs. The Timberwolves used great defense to take the third set by a resounding 25-14 score, led by Leah Bowen who led the team in digs with 21. Unfortunately the Jayhawks bounced back and put the match away 25-20 in the 4th set. Karley Hertzner led the team in kills with 13 and also blocked 3 attempts and assisted on 2 other blocks. Breanna MacDuff assisted on 32 kills.
The final match of the day saw the Timberwolves take on Erie and make short work of the western foe. Coach Li had his team clicking on all cylinders as their balanced attack was too much for their opponent. 4 Timberwolves put up double digit point totals, led by Hertzner with 11 kills, 2 aces, 2 blocks and a block assist. Jana Depalo had 11 kills, an ace and a block and Morgan Bellanger picked up 10 kills and an ace. Sophomore Victoria Bruni dug 17 balls while putting up solid offense with 7 kills, 3 aces and a block assist. Leah Bowen dug 29 balls to lead the team from the libero position and Breanna MacDuff assisted on 34 kills.
The Timberwolves next play rival Hudson Valley at home on Wednesday the 19th.
