Hertzner and Crew Take Down North Country In Straight Sets
North Country traveled down the Northway to battle the host Timberwolves and came out on the wrong side of the fight in the early afternoon matchup.
Reigning Region III Player of the Week Breanna MacDuff kept her team poised and steady throughout the match with precision sets and perfect passing. She assisted on 31 kills, making it 5 matches in a row with 30 or more.
Many of those assists went to freshman Karley Hertzner, who was the offensive star of the match. She killed 8 points and served 6 aces to lead the team in points. She has been steadily improving through the season and is now one of the top hitters in Region III.
Jana Depalo was Hertzner's partner in crime as she killed 8 points herself to tie for the lead in kills.
The Timberwolves were excellent from the service line, which made a huge difference in the outcome. As a team they served 26 aces which is an outstanding number. Leah Bowen was exceptional from the line as she collected 8 aces. MacDuff wasn't far behind with 7 of her own.
Bowen led the defense from the libero position and dug 16 balls.
The Timberwolves host Corning, Tompkins Cortland and SUNY Broome tomorrow in POD play with the first match scheduled for 9:00am.
