Timberwolves Volleyball Sweep Sets in Season Opener
The SUNY Adirondack Timberwolves Volleyball team was victorious in their first game of the season last night when they took down the Hudson Valley Community College Vikings in three sets.
The first set was a competitive battle before the Timberwolves pulled away at the end, taking it by the score of 25-18.
During the second set, the score was 12-10 before a timeout by Timberwolves head coach Xiao Li was called. Coming out of the timeout Emily Vetere stepped up and scored thirteen straight serving points, including four aces, to finish the set 25-10.
The third set of the match was a close one but the Timberwolves were able to put them away at the end, closing it out with the score of 25-22.
Sophomore outside hitter Jana Depalo led the Timberwolves offense averaging 5 kills per set. That currently places her second in the NJCAA rakings in that category.
Coach Li had high praise following the game for freshman middle hitter Alysia Kane, who in her first collegiate game averaged 2 blocks per set.
With a win last night, the Timberwolves are now 1-0 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. They will be back in action on Wednesday September 11th when they will travel to North Country Community College. That game is set for 6PM.
